Medea
Imago Theatre
17 SE 8th Portland
Proof that a great revenge tale never gets old, Medea is still shockingly modern as it explores themes that remain vital today. Passion, love and revenge all come into play in classical playwright Euripides' ancient Greek tragedy. Performed on a unique deck suspended in a black void three feet above the stage floor, the arresting set from No Exit heightens the symbolic power and emotion of the performance. The mighty sorceress Medea, who gave up home and family for the love of the hero Jason, plunges into despair when he abandons her for a younger woman. Medea turns all of her dark energies toward wreaking the most horrific and terrible revenge possible against the man she loved more than life itself. There will be blood at this powerful production from director Jerry Mouawad at Imago Theatre in Portland.
