Written by Pulitzer Prize-winner Alfred Uhry (Driving Miss Daisy) and Tony Award-winning composer Jason Robert Brown (The Bridges of Madison County, Honeymoon in Vegas), Parade is an "American opera" originally commissioned by the great producer Hal Prince. This stirring Broadway musical is based on the real-life story of Jewish factory foreman Leo Frank, who was convicted for the rape and killing of a 13-year-old girl in 1913 Atlanta. Set against the backdrop of Frank's controversial trial, this powerful story is part murder mystery, part social commentary and an exploration of the love that grows between Leo and his wife Lucille as they work to fight for his freedom against overwhelming anti-semitism. Parade won the 1999 Tony Award for Best Book and Best Musical Score.
