Giants
Keller Auditorium
222 SW Clay Portland
There is nothing dainty about Giants, the muscular and ambitious new production from Oregon Ballet Theatre. In this daring program, OBT traces ballet's evolution with three masterworks -- two iconic, one brand new. George Balanchine created his celebrated Serenade in 1935, infusing neoclassical dancing with the romance and rigor of old Russia. In 1989, William Forsythe then took Balanchine's legacy and updated its athletic musicality in In The Middle, Somewhat Elevated. Continuing this evolution, OBT invited its new resident choreographer, Nicolo Fonte, to create the title work. Fonte, well-known to Portland audiences for Never Stop Falling (In Love) - which featured the band Pink Martini on stage with OBT - is creating a work that will make it clear that ballet, and your local world-class ballet company, are forever moving forward, forever looking up.
