Taking Steps
Lakewood Center for the Arts
368 South State Street Lake Oswego
Featuring a fast-paced plot full of mistaken identities, jilted lovers and escalating topsy-turvydom, Taking Steps has all the trappings of a classic British farce. Set in a dilapidated, reputedly haunted three-story country house (cleverly played out on a one-story stage), the comedy centers around Elizabeth, who plans on leaving her husband, Roland, and Elizabeth's brother Mark, who had been recently jilted at the altar by his fiancee, Kitty. As the frenetic evening progresses, Elizabeth and Kitty's farewell notes get mixed up and misinterpreted, the estate's owner is mistaken for a burglar and a local legend has a none-too-bright local solicitor thinking he's in bed with a ghost seductress. Taking Steps first premiered in 1979 at the Stephen Joseph Theatre in Scarborough, and now you can experience all the farcical fun at Lakewood Center for the Arts in Lake Oswego.
