Native Gardens
Portland Center Stage
128 NW Eleventh Avenue Portland
Well-intentioned neighbors quickly grow into feuding enemies in this new flower-flinging romp coming to the stage in Portland. When an up-and-coming Latino couple purchases a home beside the prize-winning garden of a prominent Washington, D.C. family, conflicts over fences and flora spiral into territorial turmoil, exposing both couples' deeply rooted notions of race, taste, class and privilege. Blooming with wit and poignancy, Mexican-American playwright Karen Zacarķas pushes the boundaries and shatters biases one laugh at a time in Portland Center Stage's rendition of this sharp modern comedy.
