The Importance of Being Earnest
Artists Repertory Theatre
1515 SW Morrison Portland
Two wily young bachelors pretend to be nothing but earnest -- while masquerading as guys named Ernest -- as they set out to win their well-dowried ladies' hearts. In this case, however, it's a pair of bachelorettes on the chase in this all-female production of Oscar Wilde's enduring 1895 satire. This witty, sly romp through Victorian society is filled with one-liners and double entendres that still pack a mighty comic punch today, while the single-sex casting provides an exciting new twist. The playwright himself called it "a trivial comedy for serious people," and it's coming to Artists Repertory Theatre in Portland.
